Coconut Shell Activated Carbon for Exhaust Gas Purification

Coconut shell activated carbon is a porous carbon material with an irregular granular structure and a black appearance. It is widely valued for its high mechanical strength, well-developed pore structure, large specific surface area, rapid adsorption rate, high adsorption capacity, easy regeneration, and long service life.

Because different industries have varying purification requirements, activated carbon is produced in several specialized types. Coconut shell activated carbon is one of the most commonly used varieties, particularly for environmental protection and purification applications. Carbon Fresh introduces three typical process flows for exhaust gas treatment using coconut shell activated carbon.

1. Continuous Adsorption Process

This process typically consists of two adsorption units operating in parallel. It is one of the most commonly used exhaust gas treatment methods on the market and can handle both intermittent and continuous emissions. In this system, one adsorber is responsible for adsorption while the other undergoes regeneration, allowing the process to operate continuously and efficiently.

2. Continuous Moving-Bed or Fluidized-Bed Process

This system uses continuously operating equipment such as fluidized-bed or moving-bed adsorbers. It is designed for the treatment of continuously emitted exhaust gases. During operation, the coconut shell activated carbon inside the moving bed is continuously regenerated. Fresh activated carbon or recovered carbon is regularly added to the system to maintain stable purification performance.

3. Intermittent Adsorption Process

For smaller exhaust volumes or intermittent emissions, a single adsorber is commonly used. When the gas concentration is low, the activated carbon becomes saturated after adsorption and must be regenerated.

If the interval between exhaust emissions is longer than the time required for regeneration, in-situ regeneration can be carried out within the adsorber. However, if the emission interval is shorter than the regeneration time, the saturated coconut shell activated carbon can be replaced and regenerated separately for reuse.

Applications of Coconut Shell Activated Carbon

Today, coconut shell activated carbon is widely recognized as an effective material for exhaust gas purification. In addition to air treatment, it is also highly effective in water purification. It can be used to produce high-purity drinking water and to perform deep purification of industrial water and wastewater, making it an important material in environmental protection and water treatment industries.
